Appeal to support NSK’s new Emergency Shelter

From: IANH Public Service

NSK has embarked on a critical mission to renovate a school building, on 35 Spring Street Nashua, into a new, expanded emergency shelter. This new shelter will provide increased emergency housing capacity and the space to provide additional support and services. NSK can provide basic needs for more homeless individuals and families in Nashua.

For nearly 40 years NSKS has provided support for the Nashua community 's most vulnerable people - homeless and low-income men, women and families with children who have nowhere else to go. Service includes meals, food pantry, emergency shelter, education and employment assistance and other support services

The homeless population in Hillsborough County increased by 16.9% from 2010 to 2018, and it continues to grow specially after the Covid-19 pandemic. There is increased number of people in the Nashua region have no place to live. Some may not even have temporary shelter. On any given night, there are individuals and families sleeping in their car or on the ground. If you have driven through town, maybe you've seen them.

NSKS is creating a new emergency shelter at 35 Spring Street in Nashua. The Spring Street Shelter will double the capacity and enable NSKS to significantly expand on‐site services. The structure holds four floors and approximately 20,000 ft2 of usable space-more than triple the current capacity.  Slated for completion in the fall of 2022, the new shelter will include 48 beds for families, 18 beds for single men, 14 beds for single women, and 11 studio apartment units for permanent, supported housing. This new shelter is especially critical for families with children in times of crisis because NSKS is the only emergency shelter for families in Nashua. Currently, when NSKS’s family shelter is full, the City of Nashua houses families in remote hotels, often far from children’s schools

IANH has been fortunate to serve Nashua soup Kitchen for many years and a valuable partner to raise funds. We need your help to make it happen. Please consider a donation to IANH to help reach the finish line. We ask you to contribute generously to this noble cause and help people in need.

NSK would be pleased to acknowledge any individual donations via IANH $5000 and above on the dedicatory plaque near the building entrance.

We are truly grateful for your generous commitment over the years, which helps make it possible for NSK to fulfill its mission of providing food, shelter, and many other services to those in need in our community.

We are sure you are aware of the devastation Covid is causing in India. Covid was all but gone a month ago with daily new cases down to under 10,000. But everything has changed in the last one month. Currently, India is experiencing 350,000 new cases everyday and more than 2000 deaths every day based on official estimates. Informally, the tally is said to be much higher than that.

It seems that a new highly infectious Covid variant is causing the current surge. This variant is also supposed to be more deadly and is causing widespread suffering in India. As a result, the Indian healthcare system has been totally overwhelmed. There are not enough beds, ventilators, and supply of oxygen in the hospitals. People are running from one hospital to the other to find an empty bed.

People who cannot find hospital beds are staying home and relying on the oxygen cylinders. India has enough capacity to produce oxygen but there are not enough tankers to transport oxygen and not enough cylinders to dispense oxygen. Many people are dying daily because of the unavailability of oxygen.

In this dire situation, we have determined that one of the best ways to help India is to rush oxygen concentrators and other needed supplies to India. The funds would also be used to support organizations that are helping fight this crisis in India.

We know that all of you want to help. So, we are launching IANH Covid India Relief Fund with immediate effect to alleviate the suffering in India. We want to assure you that every penny you donate will be utilized for Covid Relief in India. Not only that, we at IANH are committing $10,000 from our reserves to the IANH Covid India Relief Fund.

We are requesting you to donate generously at the earliest so together we can do our part and make a difference and save lives in India. The need is urgent, and we would like you to support our effort as much and as soon as possible.

We thank you for your generosity. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our Treasurer Anand Thippeswamy at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

 IANH Covid-19 Fundraiser

The Covid-19 crisis is far from over. There is no doubt that there are many people in the US who are suffering from the fall-out of this crisis. This is evident from the long lines at food banks across the country. Food from the food banks and soup kitchens is a god-send for the families of people who have lost their jobs. IANH would like to raise funds for the following organizations to help alleviate the current suffering.

  1. Nashua Soup Kitchen: NSK is serving food and produce to those in need.
  1. Manchester Soup Kitchen: MSK and Families in Transition have created an Emergency Relief Fund and have requested donations
  1. Derry Soup Kitchen: DSK will start offering to-go meals from April 21.
  1. NH Food Bank: Food banks play an important role during the crisis by distributing food to families in need through various agencies in the state. Currently, the National Guards is working with NH Food Bank to support its operations.
  1. Feeding America: This is the parent organization that operates all food banks. Feeding America can channel the funds to states where the need is the greatest. According to Feeding America, every dollar donated to Feeding America helps provide “at least ten meals to children and families in need (www.feedingamerica.org)”.
  1. North South Foundation: NSF has launched a major effort to raise funds to help with the crisis. Given that we have collaborated with them in conducting the Education Bees for the last twenty years, we would like to support their fundraising efforts.

This crisis is unprecedented. It has been called the “the biggest global crisis since World War II”. Please support our fund raising effort by generously donating to the cause by using one of the options below. IANH plans to serve Sonshine soup kitchen at Derry, NH

Serving and supporting the community via soup kitchens has always been a heartfelt experience and the best way to engage with our local community and giving back to community.

For decades, India Association of NH (IANH) has been serving and supporting Nashua and Manchester soup kitchens that benefit thousands of needy people in these areas. IANH also has been participating in their annual fund raisers and been sponsoring these events every year for last many years.

This year, we have decided to undertake a new geographical area in New Hampshire to expand our community service via participating at Derry soup kitchen also known as Sonshine soup kitchen. Sonshine soup kitchen has been serving the local community at Derry, NH since 1989 serving meals, donating food and clothes to the needy (www.sonshinesoupkitchen.org). This will be a great opportunity for our youth group as well to expand their community reach program.

We have decided to start our engagement with the Derry soup kitchen by sponsoring a meal every month (so total of 12 meals a year). The cost for sponsorship for each meal will be 100 dollars, so we are looking for a total sum of 1200 dollars for the whole year. The soup kitchen will take care of cooking and serving the meals.

We are looking to our IANH community to come forward with meal sponsorship at Derry soup kitchen and be a part of this new initiative that IANH has undertaken. They can sponsor a meal ($100 per meal) or choose to sponsor multiple meals. If you are willing to sponsor one or more meals, please register yourself via the registration link provided below.
